Strix' heart sunk as he listened to the Luxio with shock and sadness.
Dead?...frozen...impaled...His stomach turned as his minds' eye recreated the horrible scenes that took place while he was trapped in ice.
"Dammit..." He sighed heavily and grunted in regret. He leaned on his knees and curled his tail closer to him, thinking back on the moments before he had been attacked.
I was standing outside the cavern, keeping watch...I can't remember anything nearby...nothing could have made it past...Strix looked around the group. Dante had nodded off, and the others were resting. The small cabin was warm and quiet, except for his still growling stomach. Looking down at his massive claws, he tried to put food out of his mind, but couldn't. Berries weren't cutting it, especially after the insane day they had.
Clenching his fists, he decided to go on a short hunt.
He gently patted the Luxio and whispered close to her ear. "Hey, I'm going to go find some better food. If anything happens, just call out. I won't be far."
He lurched out as quietly as he could, not wanting to disturb the others. Closing the door behind him, he gazed around the barren mountain. There was a moderate wind, but the chill that it brought along promised another storm.
This fucking snow! Ugh! he thought angrily as he painstakingly made his way to the areas without snow, so as not to leave tracks.
Once he was far enough from the cabin, he focused his mind.
"Hmm..." he sniffed the air carefully, rising to his full height, his ears moving to pick up any disturbance.
The wind blowing through the frozen trees wasn't as pronounced on his right flank, so he slowly made his way that way, staying low and alert for any movement.
This place is empty of life...even for a frozen wasteland like this...Strix thought uneasily.
As he stepped over a fallen log, he smelled death. Not far from the base, partially crushed by the fallen tree, was the corpse of a bird. There was red and white feathers scattered near the carcass, frozen to a small pool of dark frozen liquid around the body.
Strix drew closer and sniffed the creature.
It doesn't look like it's been touched by anything...and it's not rotten...but it is frozen. Undeterred by this, he carefully salvaged what he could of the dead bird and began to make his way back to the cabin, when he heard snow crunching somewhere ahead of him.
In one fluid movement, he dropped the dead thing and took to hiding behind a large boulder nearby.
His ears straightened as he caught sight of a lone swinub, waddling into the clearing.
He silently sniffed the air; he grinned as he felt the wind against his face.
Not an infected...
It'll never see it coming...A pang of guilt ran through him as he suddenly had second thoughts about killing one of the few uninfected he's run across. He watched as the small brown pokemon shuffled through the snow, burying its snout in the ground periodically.
...If we don't get any clean meat in our systems, we could starve...or worse, succumb to one of the infected because we're too damn weak to fight back...Anger flooded him as the weight of the situation hit him hard. He lashed out at the Swinub with a Shadow Claw, a deep gash opening up behind its skull and spilling blood. Not a sound came from the creature except gargling; he had been quick and clean in his kill. It was dead before it knew what had happened.
With a heavy heart, he held the carcass upside down and drained it of as much blood as he could. Once it stopped dripping, he made his way to the other corpse nearby, picked it up and made his way back to the cabin.

The wind had turned violent and chilling. The snow was so thick, he couldn't see very far ahead of him, but he knew which way the cabin was. As he approached the small building from the side, he saw a blast of fire erupt and melt the top layer of snow surrounding them.
Dante?...he thought, puzzled.
What's he doing?...He heard the door shut as the hound trotted back in.
Peering in through through a crack in the window, he saw another pokemon, circled by Dante. This one was lean and dark as well. It also looked young and absolutely terrified of the intimidating Houndoom.
Oh.He looked down at the dead pokemon in his claws, then back through the window.
I'm sure that one is hungry too...
I guess we can split it...With a heavy sigh, he knocked on the wall with his heavy claw.
"Yo Dante, come out here for a second."
Strix didn't want to barge in with a bunch of corpses. He just didn't know which of them wanted meat and which ones would be...unsettled by it.
Maybe Dante could thaw out this bird... he thought bitterly as he eyed the frozen lump in his hands.
(Ooc- sorry for the insanely long post. @_@)
