{{Schnorfle's POV]]
My lighter purple eye cracked open, only to snap back closed again.
It is as I thought, I thought with false cheer. Morning. With a few more seconds of dark, i snapped both of my eyes open and greeted the sun with a crooked grin. Schnoofie and I had become nont ...er, NON nocturnal, I guess, thanks to the epidemic. It was no llonger safe to shut our eyes at daytime and be loose at night. There were too many dangers. We had taken shelter in the attic of one of the few houses that still stood in the city. There was a shattered window and the only way in, unless you had thumbs, was to fly in. Sheltered enough. The only reason that
I wanted to sleep there for the night was the pure
irony! Imagine, two bat pokemon sleeping in an
abandoned attic! It made me start giggling all over again as I opened my large wingspan and let go of my perch. "Oh Schnooooofiiiie~" I sang loudly, flying around her from where she slept. The much smaller female swoobat muttered but did not open her lime colored eyes. "Wakey wakey~" I sang again, hovering close to her ear as I smiled in a goofy way.
"Go away, Schnorfle," she finally growled, burrowing her face into her folded wings. I turned upside down so that we could see eye to eye and I poked her with my nose. But before I could tease her some more, there was a terrible roaring noise and then the crackling of burning.
Burning. Oh Arceus. My demeanor snapped from playful to serious and I snapped, "Get up! Either the house is on fire or it will be soon! We need to leave
now!"
That woke her up. Schnoofie's eyes snapped open and she let go of her perch, flying next to me. There was fear in her eyes. "Don't worry," I soothed her. "Follow me, and stay close. There might be a Harbringer around." I growled the last part before shooting for the cracked and shattered window. I folded my large wings close to my furry body and made it safely outside, only waiting to make sure that Schnoofie was following before shooting up again. I forced my wings to slow down as to not abandon her behind me as I gained altatude. Schnoofie is so much younger than me and had mush less aerial skill.
What met my eyes ws more sad than scary, honestly. I had come to love the beautiful little town, no matter how empty and scarred it was, and watching the fire getting worse and worse hurt what little attachment I had to it. I saw the same emotions in Schnoofie's eyes as I glanced behind. She was struggling with the effort of rising higher, and I quickly straightened out, coming to a stop and hovering. We were easily several dozen meters in the air, and the fire was spreading rapidly. I watched with narrowed eyes as it spread, not only into town, but accross the trees just as fast. I searchd for life with my peircing eyes; I had seem a snadslash and sandshrew around a few times.
I hope to Arceus that they are okay, I growled in my head, fear making my temper flare slightly.
No one deserves to die in that."Schnoofie!" I called to the much smaller swoobat, not even bothering to turn and face her. "I am going to go look for survivors and help them.
Do not follow me," I met her eyes with the last four words, my violet eyes uncharacteristically harsh and dark. I didn't wait for an awnser, just dove, folding my wings and dropping from the sky like a rocket, that young sandshrew in the back of my eyes. I hit the trees in seconds and opened my wings before pushing them harshly, making through the trees with incredible speed. "Sandshrew! Sandslash!" I called, my deeper voice not carrying well through the crackling of fire. Suddenly a shower of burning embers rained down on me from above. I looked up in horror, but I couldn't move fast enough. But a slash of wind pushed them into another burning tree.
An Air Cutter?, I thought, whipping around to see Schnoofie hovering mutinously behind me. But despite her disobeying my orders and putting herself in great danger, I nodded to show that she could stay.
"Lets go," I told her gruffly and she followed me as we went deeper into the burning forest, calling for the sandslash and sandshrew.
