Quote | "I've known nothing, especially since we were kids." |
History | Blue is a very well known individuel. In his short time, he has not only been the strongest Gym Leader of Kanto, but also the Champion of the Pokemon League. However, he has still only been chasing a shadow his entire life. Despite being Champion, he was defeated. Despite chasing the tail of his rival for years, he was defeated. Despite being a gym Leader, he was defeated. Blue is still bitter about always being second best to everyone's beloved Red. Let us go from the beginning. Blue was born and raised in the small town of Pallet. He had just his mother and older sister Daisy, having never known his father. He grew up beside the neighbour whom was the same age and gender as him, Red. The two had a bitter rivalry and it drove Blue to be the best at everything. If he was inexperienced, he learned. If he had no knowledge, he researched it. And being the grandson of the famous Prof. Oak, he had all of the tools on his side. He spent much of his childhood with Oak, being exposed to many kinds of Pokemon and being well educated by the time he started his journey. He was gifted with a rare Eevee due to being the grandson of the professor and went on his way at the same time as Red. Eager to prove himself, Blue immediately captured any Pokemon he could get ahold of, keeping and raising the best Pokemon for his own personal team. It was this time that he met two personal favourites, Pidgeot and Arcanine. Blue was very pleased, thinking very highly of himself. But he was still always second best. Despite Red being slower than him on the journey, Blue was still defeated by his rival in every battle they had. This made him more bitter and jealous with ever encounter. He began to work hard, training his team mercilessly and switching them around in boxes to have well over a dozen powerful Pokemon to choose from. All of the work paid off as he ended up winning the entire Pokemon League with his loyal Umbreon by his side. Success was addicting and it went to Blue's head almost instantly. He was cocky, using taunting banter with anyone that was strong enough to reach him. Of course, they all lost, but this only made him more anxious. Blue knew that Red would reach him eventually and made a point of training his team into the ground to be prepared for his rival. However, when the day came that Red was indeed ready to battle, things went just as he expected. He lost. It was a terrible blow to the young trainer, and he was furious with himself and lashed out at his Pokemon. He blamed them, unable to comprehend that he had indeed failed. Blue was offered the job of being the Viridian Gym Leader not long after and he hastily agreed. Still angry and lashing out at people, he was a brutal foe in battle. For a few years, Blue did nothing but massacre anyone whom reached him, sending whole teams of Pokemon to the Pokemon Center with his ruthless battling techniques. But then came the day when Umbreon went missing. Blue was panic stricken, determined to find out who dared steal his starter from him. But as the days dragged into weeks, it became more and more apparent that the dark type was not stolen, but simply ran away. This tore Blue up quite badly, but it was the wake up call he needed. He reworked his entire life, mainly his ways as a trainer. He treated his Pokemon with love and respect for the first time in years, even releasing many Pokemon he had captured simply for his ego. The changes made a huge difference as Pidgeot became his replacement team leader. Blue still searched obsessively for his Unbreon, but he had duties as a Gym Leader. He even lost to several opponents, allowing his badge to be given out for the first time. Blue was slowly recovering from his loss of both title and Umbreon, but nothing lasts forever. The Epidemic swept in like a storm, taking over the Region at an alarming rate. The call for the release of all Pokemon went out within days. But by then Blue was a new, much kinder person. He outright refused to get rid of his friends so quickly. The authorities were involved very quickly, forcing Blue to flee on his beloved Pidgeot. Being on the run did not suit Blue very well and he hated not having the attenion and status he was used to. He also only had the Pokemon in his team used for the Gym and had many vital allies stuck in the PC system. Covering his face to hide his identity, Blue snuck into a nearby Pokemon Center. He went to the computer to get out his other Pokemon only to find them all gone. His family for the last twelve years, all out in the hell that Kanto now was. Blue fled then, no longer trusting humans after that. He watched from the shadows as the military searched for people to join them, even hearing rumours of Red's return and joining them. Blue stayed in the wilderness with his team, determined to not take part of any plot against the Pokemon he loved so much. It was the military. They would not just let the Pokemon go free, he just knew it in his gut. As the months went by, Blue became one with his Pokemon. Away from civilization, he had to do things in order to survive. Blue was not perfect, however, and ended up losing two team mates. His Gyarados was exposed to infected water, forcing Blue to put him down. Machamp was massacred by bird Pokemon in the middle of the night while on watch. Blue blames himself for both losses and carries the guilt heavily with him. But even with just four partners, the fates were on his side. Especially the night he found Umbreon. The Eeveelution was wounded and dying of starvation, just laying as he slowly died in the Viridian Forest. The ex Champion was unsure at first, but then noticed the distinct scars and knew he was the same Umbreon. It was a miracle that he was still alive and Blue nursed his long lost friend back to life over the span of weeks. The Umbreon could feel the change of attitude his human had and was once more glued to his side as his loyal partner. Months went by, and Blue could only watch as the lands he ventured to were stripped of life and beauty. Only his powerful Pokemon kept him safe; Blue has a handful of knives and simple weapons, but none were as effective as his team. One night, while taking refuge in Diglett cave, Blue discovered an undead Diglett dragging a Zubat away. Immediately wanting to save it, Blue dispatched the infected and picked up the Zubat. It was female, and both her wings hung limp. Clear breaks under the membrane showed where they were crushed and broken, but she had no other wounds to suggest infection. Blue didn't have the heart to put the little one down, instead using one of his spare Pokeballs to capture her. He nursed her back to health as well as he could, but was unable to save her wings. Blue even uncharacteristicly named her, calling her Daisy in honour of his older sister whose fate was unknown to him. |

Appearance | Blue looks fairly well, considering how he has been living for the last years. He is your average guy, not too tall and just a little underweight. His orange tan hair is longer due to not being cut in over a year, reaching close to his chin. His brown eyes look hallow, bright with a determination but still holding the sorrows of the world. He no longer has his famed smirk, instead his mouth is usually set in a firm frown. His clothes are all torn and dirtied, none in good shape. His shoes are literally falling apart from being used so much. Blue always has his backpack on him, slung over just one shoulder for easy access. His gun is attached to his side and the butcher's knife has a makeshift sheath on the other side. He is always carrying Daisy, the Zubat a regular with either being on his shoulder, hidden inside of his coat, or in the crook of one arm. When Blue is not riding his bike, Umbreon is loyally by his side. |
Religion | Fairly apathetic towards religion |
Personality | Blue is a lot different from his younger self. He lives for Pokemon, firmly believing in a cure and the ability to reform the entire world back to it's former beauty. He treats his team like family. They were always close, but now they all work together as one, growing from their own individual experiences with the Epidemic. He is constantly worrying for his team, showing them constant support and love. He cares diligently for each and every one, giving them breaks as they need it. Even in the state of the world, Blue is still learning to be a better trainer. However, he is not so civil with people. After the way he was treated at the beginning, losing most of his Pokemon including his beloved Blastoise, he has a firm loathing for his own species. If he happens to stumble upon one, he will more than likely simply move on without a trace. He much prefers the company of his team to any person. If forced to interact with someone, Blue shows clear reminders of his old self. He is snappy and rude, constantly ridiculing them and ranting about how it is their fault that the virus was made in the first place. Borderline just plain nasty, Blue is not a fun person to be around if you are human. He truly hates Scientists and ex Trainers, firmly believing that the professors are responsible and Trainers are traitors against their Pokemon. Blue is a master of survival. Having gone on his own Pokemon journey at such a young age with the information learned from Prof. Oak, he knows just how to keep himself alive. Skilled at hunting as well as foraging, Blue makes sure no meat is tainted before cooking it with Arcanine. He has even been known to smear mud and vegetation on his skin to blend in better. Blue has become skilled with the weapons he has as well. His aim with the slingshot is not perfect, but he can hit nearly anything with just a small stone. Being fiercely protective of his Pokemon family, Blue has much remorse for the infected but no mercy. |
Affiliations | Red: His old rival; though the main cause of Blue's obvious inferiority complex, he is one of the few humans Blue doesn't hate by default. Currently trying his best to understand the guy more (and not get shot in the process) Oak: Grandfather; mixed feelings Daisy: Older sister; misses her dearly more to add later |
User Notes | He named his Zubat, Daisy, after his sister. A scavenger; unafraid to eat untainted Pokemon to survive, though only as a complete last resort for himself He found the universal communicator in Johto, but never uses it unless around other people or Pokemon survivors. Blue can understand his Pokemon without it, and vice versa. He doesn't use his Pokemon's actual names with others around, no matter if they are human or Pokemon. |

History | Born years ago to a small breeding center, the Eevee was destined to be given out to a special child alongside the multiple traditional Kanto starters. This was indeed true when Professor Oak himself set the Eevee into a boy's arms and sent him off with a Pokedex and several Pokeballs. The boy was named Blue. Living with Blue was not always easy for his starter but the Eevee stayed loyally at his side, fighting any and every battle he was told to. In no time he evolved, growing into a species never seen before in Kanto at the time; and Umbreon. But as time went on after that, things..changed. Blue was never one to be kind to his Pokemon, but over years he became obsessed. Every defeat from his rival, Red, caused fits of anger that he turned on his Pokemon. Umbreon was never a target, but Pidgeot, Arcanine, Blastoise and the others were. The pure raw hard work paid off when Blue himself sat at the throne at the end of the Indigo Plateau, Champion at last. But the abuse did not end there. In the short time before Red inevitably showed up, Blue ran his winning team ragged. They were exhausted constantly, but no one asked for a break. They were his team, they believed in what Blue did and would follow him to the end. Umbreon used to think the same. When Red came, Blue was defeated. But unlike most other Champions, who just get swept aside in the tide, he was offered a permanent job offer to take over the former Viridian Gym. Umbreon's master was less than pleased, but took the job seriously. In the years that followed, he treated his winning team less and less like they were even alive, but more and more like dead tools to be used. Pidgeot's Return grew weaker and weaker, but even then Blue did not notice. Umbreon did, though. His team was losing faith, they could not physically take the abuse forever. It was when the team had a long night of talking that Umbreon felt the need to do something. He had as much say as Blue did to the team, but he had not done anything up to that point. Making a promise to Pidgeot, Umbreon planned an escape. He would leave in the dead of night to go look for salvation for the dying team. Putting the bird in charge, the vulpine went through with his initial plan and vanished into the night. Umbreon had no way of knowing if the secret part of his plan would even work; Blue realising he drove his partner away and changing on his own. Umbreon grew wary in a matter of weeks, lonely and depressed. Did Blue even notice his absence? Was Pidgeot holding up? Were any of the others? Would Blue ever give out a badge? Could he even change? He refused to turn back, though, and steeled his resolve as he merely travelled. Meeting Pokemon and trainers alike, he was easily able to care for himself and keep out of trouble. Everything changed when the Epidemic broke out; Umbreon was suddenly not just a loner but alone in a very, very dangerous world. In the beginning it was hell, Pokemon attacking, infected and healthy alike, with trainers pointing guns at him on sight. As a year passed, it became harder and harder to find resources and keep safe. Umbreon no longer felt noble, but a deserter. He had abandoned his friends only a few years before this hell, and now he would never get the chance to make it up to them. Umbreon had given up. No longer caring, the vulpine holed up in the familiar Viridian Forest, comforted by the memories of spending time there both as a child and adult. But he was cornered and attacked too many times. Even though he won every fight, Umbreon was weakening. At one point he just stopped getting up, laying motionless on the bloody grass. Death would come soon, he was sure. Death would come soon.. But it was the Legends who smiled upon him, as somehow he found himself lifted up into a human's arms. They had done nothing but try to kill him for so long, but Umbreon did not care any longer. At least it would be a swift death. But when a hand touched his cheek shakily, Umbreon became aware of the scent on the man's skin and his eyes snapped open. It was Blue. His Blue. There was emotion in the man's eyes, so many he could not recall seeing in too long. Fear. Worry. Desperation. Hope. Umbreon saw Pidgeot and Arcanine and everyone, too, gathered around him. The change was obvious then. It had worked, Blue had seen the light somehow. In the weeks that followed, Umbreon recovered shakily, but was once more Blue's loyal partner, and in the years that followed, never left his partner's side. |
Bulbapedia | "Umbreon has a sleek black body with four slender legs and crimson eyes. There are two pairs of pointed teeth visible when its mouth is open, one in the upper jaw and one in the lower. It has long pointed ears and a bushy tail, each with a yellow band around them. Its forehead and legs have yellow rings on them. Its yellow markings glow at night and strike fear into anyone nearby. It hides in the darkness while waiting for its opponents, and its yellow rings glow when it leaps to attack. It is also capable of spraying a poisonous sweat whenever it gets agitated. This Pokémon is rare in the wild, and is more often found in urban areas under the care of people." |
Appearance | APPEARANCE |
Accent | Unspecified |
Religion | None; atheist |
Motivation | Protect his loved ones |
Personality | Firm in his beliefs, Umbreon sees the world clearly in right or wrong and has a very strong conscience. A generally clear headed individual, the Dark type holds an experienced and wise air about him generally. Despite his sharp mind, he is weakened by the prospect of being on his own. The years away from his partner were painful to Umbreon on a deep level, and it almost killed him when on his own during the apocalypse. Even though he is able to rely strongly on his own wits and power, Umbreon sees no point in living if there is nothing to live for. Since being reunited with his oldest friend, Umbreon has come to respect and adore the man Blue has grown into more than ever before. After speaking with his other Pokemon, as well as seeing his gentle care of Daisy, Umbreon is once again loyal to a fault to the trainer and will stay with him to the ends of the earth. A true leader, he takes great pride in his word having meaning and depth and as a result tends to not speak just to hear the sound of his own voice. A quiet, stoic type, Umbreon is rarely openly affectionate to many outside of his family in Blue and his fellow team mates. This is to not say he can't be friendly, but is very cautious around new Pokemon in general. Once it becomes clear they mean no harm, he is a warm, caring soul. However Umbreon is easily stressed out and pushed to the brink when Blue or Daisy are in general, caring for the Zubat just as much as his trainer does in the years that have passed. When pushed against a wall in dangerous situations, the vulpine is prone to being reckless, putting himself in danger without a second thought if it could help Blue. Loyal to a fault, Umbreon would lay his life on the line for Blue and only Blue. |
User Notes | Though he is an intimidating presence, in reality Umbreon is not unlike most other of his kind and can generally take more hits than the number he dishes out. This is not to say that he can not cause damage and defend himself, but in general he works much better as a literal wall. I'm going to use art from Duma for him soon enough, Dreamworld is a placeholder, but I lost the link lmao |
