History | - History:
Quiet, unhappy, unenthusiastic.
All words that could describe Lazarus— with a shade of midnight blue fur and stunning cerulean eyes, the Eevee known by a different name from birth was hardly recognized for her abnormal appearance as each of her siblings had unusual appearances specifically bred for. Members of her kin knew her better for the thousand-yard stare she always wore, constantly fixed on a point a million miles away.
She had somewhat of a reputation for being a loner, since childhood opting for playtime by herself in lieu of companionship of others. Out of countless siblings there was only one specific littermate that stood out in her mind— her dear brother was the one light spot in an otherwise black hole of darkness. Lazarus would go on to cite a rocky relationship with her mother as a big contributor— the two were constantly at odds in a terminally toxic familial struggle, the kit having been groomed from birth to be dependent and obedient— with wrong moves punished more often than not with mental abuse but physical violence was never off the table.
Unfortunately her teens showed little potential for improvement. The moments of abuse, warmth, anger, reconciliation, all in an uncontrollable and unpredictable cycle were as strong as ever and a growing up Lazarus was beginning to grasp the gravity of her captor’s sins.
So she left.
One argument, one bad day turned violent was the final straw for the Eevee. She disappeared into the night, without a sound or a goodbye to any of the faces she never bothered to love except her brother.
Her wandering was directionless, but bright lights became her guide towards something she’d never lay eyes upon. There were millions of miniature suns positioned all around, the ground was hard and jutted up in weird rectangles with two-legged creatures moving about inside. Lazarus was in absolute awe at such things.
She began calling this new place ‘home,’ specifically a patch of grass underneath a bench within what she’d learned was called a park.
Her stomach rumbled each night after picking through garbage cans, and sometimes her spoils were less than safe and she found herself violently retching up her belly’s contents, but despite the hardships, she’d never considered returning home for a moment.
It was about a week since she’d begun living in the human place. Arrogantly, she’d already proclaimed herself an expert in the art of living amongst the city dwellers— what usually angered them, what endeared them. What could get her free food, what got her pets. It was all a game to the sly fox, one she’d quickly grown addicted to with each interaction entirely different than the last and anticipation of her next mishap always on her mind.
Then, in her own words, she fucked up.
Her mouth and cross attitude got the attention of a Houndoom. And of course it wasn’t the good type of attention.
She’s seen this guy around, always with several females and always roughing up some poor soul practically pissing itself at the sight of him. Lazarus knew nothing of gangs and only assumed he was some player getting a little too big for his britches, so when the chance came to roast his entire life, she took it.
And the ladies with him laughed. They laughed while this giant, drooly, scarred up fuckhead of a dog grabbed tiny Lazarus by her fluffy fringe and thrashed her like a squeaky toy. She squirmed to zero avail, conceding at some point as her vision darkened that maybe she shouldn’t have been such a smartass.
Then with a loud explosion, the breath returned to her and she could see again. The Houndoom was on the ground, his women fleeing, and a lean but strong looking creature stood over him. The creature looked like an Eeveelution but she wasn’t sure, and his stunning emerald coat stood in sharp contrast to the dull gray cobblestone.
The Eeveelution seemed enraged and didn’t stop his furious beating until the Houndoom was bloody and fleeing like an abused puppy dog. Lazarus herself flinched when he snapped his head around at her and approached.
Her tense body relaxed at the Drakeon’s gentle demeanor, seemingly taking a complete turnaround as he checked on her well-being with more genuine concern than she’d ever known. It made her queasy and excited at the same time, and from that moment she knew she’d do anything to stick by this guy.
His name was Kato, and he wasn’t much more than a wanderer with a heart of gold. The duo hit it off immediately and without ever asking permission, Lazarus became his companion on their travels together. Their destination was never existent, instead they focused on the time spent exploring and the fun there was to be had, which was a lifestyle Lazarus never knew she needed until it fell into her lap. She was beyond happy, happier than she’d ever been and she knew deep down she was falling for her savior.
It was a long time before she admitted her feelings for the Drakeon. Much time had passed and Lazarus found herself fatally ill after ingesting some poisoned food a human had offered her. It was a tender and bittersweet moment that the Eevee proclaimed the love she had for her friend and her gratitude for how he changed her life, and the regret she had for not loving him sooner. The Drakeon reciprocated her feelings just before the poison took her, and he could see through his tears the Eevee had passed with the most content of smiles.
He held her body close, craving her companionship more than anything when her body began to shift. A blinding light filled the dark alleyway and before he could figure out what was happening, Lazarus’ body was replaced with a taller, sleeker version of herself he recognized as a Spectreon.
Overjoyed, they embraced as lovers for the first of many times to come. Kato jokingly referred to her as Lazarus after a story he’d heard once and the moniker stuck, replacing the old calling card she’d grown to despise.
They continued their journey for a while later until they reached Veilstone City. Far from what Lazarus called home previously, they had decided would become their perfect haven. A small abandoned warehouse was their little lovenest and they never hesitated to use it.
Shortly after settling into their new home, Lazarus gave birth to two eggs.
It was entirely accidental— Lazarus and Kato had toyed with the idea of children but Laz, concerned she would produce stillborn children as she herself blurred the lines of living and dead, had decided against the idea as the event of losing their children sounded like more than the female could bear.
They watched the eggs day in and day out. It started to feel like she truly had produced failed offspring with each passing day that the eggs showed no signs of life. Finally, one moved a little. Then it made a quiet chirp. And the couple rejoiced tearfully, as the other lay cold and still until they buried it in the woods with a tiny cross and a neat little circle of stones in memorial of what would never be.
They selected a name for a boy— Rin. Or if it were a girl, Artemis. They spent all their free time discussing their new baby and how they’d raise it, the fun they would have in parenthood, the ups, the downs, everything in between. Until finally a tiny foot broke open the shell, and their daughter greeted the world.
It was a dream come true— their daughter was visibly healthy and sported a gorgeous black coat tinted midnight blue in the sun. Her eyes were a cocoa brown like her father’s and she already had his grin.
The couple and their darling daughter were living what the recognized now as their dream.
But then the virus hit.
At first Lazarus swept it under the rug— who heard such a thing and immediately believed it? While all the end-of-the-world preppers were fleeing into their bunkers, Lazarus did what she always did. Make fun of the situation and ultimately not think much more of it.
But things got bad fast. Cities were falling, people and Pokémon alike were being shot in the streets. The former for their supplies, the latter for potential infection. It became what she described as a shitshow, and heart wrenchingly, she looked into her little girl’s eyes and regretted procreation with every bit of herself. Lazarus grew terrified, paranoid to leave the reinforced warehouse for fear that something would happen to her family. Even as supplies dwindled, she was adamant no one so much as peeked outside. This would pass. It HAD to pass— she had a little girl that deserved to grow up in a safe world!
But it got worse yet. Eventually the living were outnumbered by the dead and the streets became a twisted doppelgänger of what once was. Eventually Kato had to venture, and Lazarus wasn’t happy. But he had a duty to his mate and child and they finally saw the devastation for themselves. Lazarus unashamedly bawled for the life that could’ve been, horrified at the predicament they were now in. How, at anytime, her child and mate could become twisted corpses on the side of the road with all the others.
They looted, stole, fought for everything they had. They never left anyone entirely without food but frequently attacked others for a share of what they had. It was never malicious. Their child had to survive.
Artemis surviving was everything.
The swarm came in suddenly.
They couldn’t explain how the horde got the drop on them but Kato and Laz were conversing with a traveling group of living, bartering goods when at least 30 - maybe 40, Lazarus didn’t know - wandering undead slunk into town. They all seemed as low functioning as undead got, purely running on need-to-eat instinct. Naturally, Lazarus and Artemis were whisked into the travelers’ den and kept safe while the others stood watch. And then Arte started to cry for her dad to come back.
The noise attracted the undead in droves and suddenly it was chaos. The travelers were trying to protect the mother and child and falling victim left and right. With her priority in tow and with immense shame, she abandoned those that were protecting her to return to the warehouse. She lost sight of Kato in the confusion but never saw him fall, thankfully.
The warehouse was empty when she returned and there she waited with Arte for days. Then weeks, months. It was only when a swollen, purple Bibarel broke through the door that she finally fled the warehouse.
Lazarus had to have scent checked every foot of that city but Kato’s scent was stale. In her head it meant he’d been chased too far away to return and had lost his way. Maybe, leading away the horde like the brave knight he’d always been… gods. She didn’t hesitate for a single second.
She hunted the surrounding area until she found a viable trail and she followed it. Further and further until Veilstone could only be a memory now, she would find Kato and they’d be a family again.
For her entire life, Artemis had constantly heard before the epidemic, the world before, the way things used to be. The constant danger and suffering of the post-apocalyptic world was all she knew having been born in the throes of it.
Lazarus gave birth to a pair of eggs fathered by Kato during the beginnings of the epidemic. Both were cared for by the lovers, one showing vibrant signs of life and the other initially did as well but soon grew cold, lifeless and material. It was the end of Artemis’ sibling much to the pain of Kato and Laz.
Their mourning made Artemis’ hatching ever more special. They were overjoyed at the birth of their surviving kit and welcomed the visually striking baby into their loving embrace instantly. Despite the horrors of the world, Artemis was the one single seed of goodness left and they’d fight tooth and nail to protect her.
Having never known the world before, Artemis was a happy child sheltered from what was actually happening to the best of her parents’ ability. She found beauty in simple joys like a spring day or a pretty flower. Even towns painted in crimson blood and littered with corpses made no difference to the child who knew no better than red paint and napping Pokémon.
Lazarus and Kato often made exchanges with enclaves of other Pokémon in the city for supplies and food, and one day it went terribly wrong. It was the first time Artemis knew panic and fear. As more undead than Arte could count lumbered into their space, Lazarus and Artie were sheltered and guarded. As Kato himself stood guard, Artemis’ crying drew the undead into a frenzy. She watched, despite Laz’s pleas for her to close her eyes, as Pokémon fell to the undead one after another. Death was something brand new to the sheltered Eevee and she was instantly traumatized even as Lazarus fled with her back to the warehouse they called home.
Artemis continued crying, softer and practically nullified by the sounds of distant screaming and carnage. For the moment they were safe.
They waited for Kato to return, Lazarus swearing up and down to her child he would come back and that she saw him make it out alive. Months went by as they continued waiting until a big purple monster crashed into their home and began trying to attack them. Lazarus decided for their sake, it was time to go and Artie knew better than to argue.
Lazarus scented around the area restlessly until she gleefully announced she’d found a trail. They followed it, and kept on going. Never stopping, not until their family was whole again.

Bulbapedia | "Spectreon has a sleek purple body with four slender legs and crimson eyes. It has long gaseous ears and a large, wispy gaseous tail, as well as a wisp of 'fluff' on its forehead and on their wrists and ankles. The gas-like areas are colored a dark purple. It roams around at night, usually sticking to one person or area. It is also capable of phasing through walls and ceilings as though they weren't there. This Pokémon is rare in the wild, and is a result of an eevee's soul being bound to Earth because of it's love for it's trainer." "Eevee is a mammalian, quadrupedal Pokémon with primarily brown fur. The tip of its bushy tail and its large furry collar are cream-colored. It has short, slender legs with three small toes and a pink paw pad on each foot. Eevee has brown eyes, long pointed ears with dark brown interiors, and a small black nose."

Appearance | - appearance:
Lazarus is in fair shape for a dead thing in the epidemic, with fur as black as the night itself kept neatly groomed most of the time. Her pelt is thick and the fur on her underbody is profoundly longer than the rest, which has a feel similar to velvet and shows clear prints where she’s been touched. The wisps on her body are constantly billowing - even more when angry - and showing the mixing and mingling of colors reminiscent of nebulas and never the same pattern as a moment before. Her most prominent colors in her large wisps are blue and purple, with green and pink displaying occasionally along with white spots. She has cerulean blue scleras with her pupils the exact same color, making the rings of her white irises the only thing visible against the blue of her eyes. Her paws have long white claws and around her neck is a black faux leather collar. A Soothe Bell is attached to the leash loop.
Artemis carries a striking midnight blue fur coat with accents of white— her fringe, ear insides, the tip of her tail and her facial markings. The facial markings are small freckles that look something like stars, varying in size with two pronounced markings on either cheek looking like a small falling star: one large dot followed by a trail of white fur. Her eyes are a soft lavender purple shade that compliments her youthful features. Artemis is very small due to her age and is rarely spotted with anything but childlike enthusiasm on her little face.

Accent | North American. North American. Has a slight lisp. |
Religion | - Religion:
Arceist; very weak faith despite her best efforts to believe in a higher power. Regardless, she prays in bad situations and feels a twinge of guilt for swearing in Arceus’ name. Was agnostic growing up but was influenced by Kato.
Arceist; Was taught by Kato of a higher power and encouraged to practice the religion.
|
Motivation | Protecting and raising Artemis, and reuniting with Kato.
Obeying Lazarus, which means survival and finding Kato. Arte personally strives to brighten others’ days.
|
Personality | - Personality:
☆ Bubbly; Lazarus is hyper and loud, finding amusement in the simplest, stupidest or sometimes sickest things. She’s very hard to handle sometimes and she’s been disliked for this alone numerous times. On the flipside, some find her personality to be kind of uplifting in bad situations, as long as they aren’t easily offended. ☆ Sarcastic; This thing has a mouth that runs like water down a waterfall. She’s a comedian in a friendly scenario and an evil bitch in a hostile one. Little is held back in terms of what she’s willing to say once she’s mad or comfortable enough for her inhibition to disappear. She has a bit of restraint with strangers. Just enough to make a decent impression, hopefully. Maybe. ☆ Antisocial; She’s obviously capable of communicating with others like a normal creature but as a shy creature, it’s something she avoids if at all possible. She’s friendly with people she already knows but avoids strangers like the plague, which left her with friends far and few between in life, so the few she has/had are very dear to her. Being near others isn’t as much of an issue as long as she doesn’t have to interact. ☆ Jealousy issues; Lazarus has a bit of a jealous streak in her, and while it’s extremely tame with others compared to how it was with Kato, she exhibits a slight tendency to get pissy when she’s left out of things or someone she likes shows attention to someone else. With Kato, she was unreasonably hostile to females that talked to him with the purest of intentions and would give him the silent treatment for it; with casual friends and males, she would pout and guilt trip him for ignoring her. Kato thought the behavior was cute, which led to it becoming a permanent trait in her personality. ☆ Faithful; Her loyalty to Kato was strong enough to revive her from the dead. Needless to say, she’s practically bound by her soul to those she cares about and would do anything and everything for them. She didn’t even have to consider dedicating her time to literally wandering the entire world for Kato. In another sense of the word, she’s faithful in the romantic sense and while she has no way of being certain she’ll ever see him again, she has not and will not make or accept any romantic advances. ☆ Emotional; She pretends she’s a lot more thick skinned than she really is. It’s actually very easy to tip the scale and make her angry or sad. She can be childish, petty, cruel and cold when angry, meanwhile she’s notorious for hiding out and pouting or crying in secret and being in a glum mood forever after. Also super easily embarrassed. It’s pretty funny, though you’ll piss her off and/or upset her with it. She holds grudges, too. ☆ Afraid to be alone; While, yes, in the physical sense too, she has a deep rooted fear stemming from kithood of being replaced, abandoned or forgotten completely. It’s something she often jokingly brings up but she’s looking for reassurance that she won’t be left by the ones she loves. ☆ Anxiety & OCD; While they normally aren’t crippling, Laz has issues with both. Her OCD is generally manifested in an obsession with checking things - especially if they’re particularly important. For example, if she was told to lock a door, she would repeatedly check that door to make sure she did it right and begin to distrust her own eyes to confirm it. Her anxiety is the lesser of the two issues and generally she can distract herself from thinking too much and it seems to help. ☆ “I’m okay;” is one of the biggest lies she’ll tell. When something hurts her deeper than evoking a tantrum, she’ll do the polar opposite in response — she’s completely pretend she’s fine and unfazed. She pushes everything back and smiles like she’s fine because everything goes away if you ignore it. At least, she tells herself that. ☆ Playfully troublesome; Laz loves mischief in all forms— and now that she’s a ghost, she’s even better at the awful things she does, from the simplest prank to a long-premeditated one, or going as far as trespassing, vandalism and thievery. She loves the process of planning, pulling it off and then having the story to tell. ☆ Protective; Messing with someone Laz cares about is one of the last things you wanna do. Even if someone is fully capable, she’ll still spring into action and react accordingly from verbal arguments to violence. ☆ Sweet; Like embarrassingly so. Has no issue displaying affection to someone she’s extremely attached to. She often goes the extra mile to make someone smile even at the cost of inconveniencing herself in some way or another. ☆ Lazy; Not exactly in the sense of doing absolutely nothing - while she does enjoy that sometimes - she’s frustratingly irresponsible sometimes and puts off whatever she doesn’t feel like doing until the last possible moment. ☆ Passive; Laz has a habit of giving up something she wants (ex. plans, food, a place to sleep, etc.) for no real reason besides that she hates asking for things, or just taking them for herself. Kato got her on case constantly for this but she never successfully broke the habit. ☆ Accepting; She’s fascinated by others and the differences between them, so she’ll never discriminate as long as it’s a “do no harm,” type of thing. The way she sees it, if everyone thought like her, acted and believed like her, the world would be frikken boring because there would be no individuality between people. ☆ Realistic; One of the best traits she has is her realism. She won’t sugar coat anything but she also won’t make it seem worse than it is. She is a great resource for situational advice for this reason, be it romantic advice or more serious problems.
☼ Creative; Artemis has always had a huge imagination from being an only child and having to entertain herself during the epidemic. She’s constantly playing pretend games and keeping herself entertained countless different ways. ☼ Courageous; Likely from a lack of consequences in her life, Artemis is very brave and rarely considers outcomes before leaping into action whenever Lazarus cannot stop her. ☼ Honest; Being careful with words is one thing Arte does not do— she’ll say what’s on her mind whether it’s kind, rude or whatever is in between. She’s not the person you want to tell secrets to because it’ll be spread like wildfire. These things are out of childish ignorance rather than malice however. ☼ Bratty; Artemis is a child and doesn’t let anyone forget it. She isn’t above tantrums to get her way or episodes of pure drama if she’s unhappy. She cries a lot when others leave even if momentarily or whenever she thinks of her dad. Has severe fits if Lazarus leaves. ☼ Optimistic; Too going to be realistic, too pure to be pessimistic— this leaves Arte with a strong sense of optimism that everything will be okay because what else could it possibly be? ☼ Respectful; Arte, while brutally blunt sometimes, will rarely go out of her way to intentionally hurt someone’s feelings. She’s a polite and respectful young lady, using sir or ma’am to refer to others and always using please and thank you. ☼ Generous; Want half of her food? You got it! Arte loves to share with others and never hesitates when asked. This frequently stresses Lazarus out who just wants to make sure her needs are met, which is difficult when she’s constantly giving resources away. ☼ Sneaky; With Laz being the overprotective mother she is, Arte has to be creative to have fun sometimes. She’s a very intelligent girl who has fooled Lazarus with the ol’ rocks under the blanket trick to sneak out more than once. Things like this are common with Arte who doesn’t understand the dangers of what she does.

User Notes | - User Notes:
☆ Pokésona. ☆ Chaotic neutral. ☆ Kato based on my husband with his permission. ☆ Sleeps a lot. Like, way more than necessary if she has the chance to. She gets cranky when she’s tired, so it’s probably better to let her just sleep all the time. ☆ She doesn’t know anything about her species and she’s afraid she’s immortal. The thought freaks her out because she doesn’t want to wander a dead world forever. The only way she knows to test the theory is to try to kill herself and she’s afraid of that too. ☆ When she uses Curse, she starts bleeding from her eyes and spitting up blood. Last resort move. Return is basically useless now but she’s too stubborn and sentimental to stop trying to use it. ☆ High level from daily training. ☆ Gets cold a lot. She loved cuddling with Kato to warm up, but she isn’t comfortable doing it with anyone but him and Artemis. ☆ Has a literal phobia of Banette. She has no traumas to base this fear on, they’re just fucking creepy and even worse, they’re ghosts too so she’s vulnerable to them. ☆ Also afraid of falling asleep in the dark. She usually keeps this to herself because she doesn’t feel like having anyone poke fun at her for being a ghost that’s afraid of the dark. Something about falling asleep when literally anything could be two feet away watching her drives her nuts. ☆ Nighttime is her favorite thing ever. She gets an absolute joy out of perching somewhere and watching the moon and stars. Her fixation on the night probably stems from listening to Kato talk about his theories on space while they looked at the night sky.
☼ Named after my future daughter’s original name. ☼ Afraid of bug types and the dark. ☼ Wants to be a Drakeon like Dad someday. ☼ Doesn’t sleep much, very much to Lazarus’ dismay. ☼ Lazarus used Echoed Voice TM on her so she would have a ranged attack. ☼ Does not know she had a sibling. ☼ Has moderate ADHD.

Affiliations | ☆ Artemis ☆ Lazarus shares a close bond with Artemis and is fiercely protective over the youth. She would move heaven and earth to see her child smile and take on the devil himself to protect her. They’re often seen playing, talking or reminiscing about Kato when times are calm, and Artemis is her number one priority when things go south.
☆ Cosmic ☆ Brother from the same litter. Cosmic was very dear to her as kits for the short time they knew each other before Lazarus escaped. She still remembers him fondly to this day and hopes to see him once again.
☼ Lazarus ☼ Her mother and guardian. Artemis loves her mother dearly and suffers from separation anxiety if she isn’t around Lazarus. They are remarkably close even by mother-daughter standards and almost always together playing or spending quality time with one another. |
