| History | Marley was born in a remote area of the Sinnoh region as an only child. The family was poor, and often struggled to make ends meet. Marley's father went out to work at the shipyard in the nearby city of Canalave, while her mother stayed home to care for her young daughter. Marley's parents loved her, and she loved them, but the child often felt smothered by the talk of the family's problems, ranging from lack of food to her father's issues at work. So quite often, when she was old enough, Marley would wander off into the nearby woodlands to play. Although she was always by herself, she gave herself many great adventures, becoming a princess one day and a superhero the next. She climbed trees, hopped across rivers and drew pictures in the dirt. While content to live in her own world whenever she could, Marley was lonely and longed for a friend. That friend came in the form of a young Growlithe, who approached Marley one day while she was playing. She was initially cautious of the Fire-type, having never seen a Pokemon up close before. But one day she held her hand out to it, and the puppy nuzzled it affectionately. It was love at first sight. Marley met up with her new friend every day, happy to finally have someone to go on adventures with. Marley knew full well what many children did when they reached the age of ten, and so, barely a day after her 10th birthday, she expressed her desire to leave home and become a Trainer. Her parents were hesitant at first, but knew that leaving home was probably best for their daughter, considering their own situation had barely improved since Marley was a baby. She said goodbye to her parents and left, taking one last trip into the woods and meeting up with the only Pokemon she'd ever consider taking with her as her partner: the young Growlithe. Marley's journey went remarkably well. She valued the freedom that travelling offered to her, meeting lots of new people and Pokemon, and learning how to catch them herself. Her team steadily grew, the young Trainer taking the time to experiment and discover what kinds of Pokemon worked best for her. She found herself returning to Pokemon with high Speed stats, enjoying lashing out at opponents before they could make their move. Eventually, she began to challenge the gyms of the Sinnoh reigon, and within a few years had all eight badges in her hand. But while other Trainers would turn their sights straight to the Pokemon League, Marley had other ideas. She had heard about a massive battling facility called the Battle Tower on Sinnoh's north-eastern coast. She travelled back to Snowpoint City, purchased a ticket and rode the ferry over there to check it out. Marley loved it. She was surrounded on all sides by powerful Trainers far older than she was, with many years more experience. She wanted to learn from them; to watch them; to grow stronger yet. She met the Tower Tycoon, Palmer, who took a liking to her enthusiasm, and agreed to give her tuition. They battled, Palmer taking notes of her techniques and skills, and although the Tycoon won the battle, the feedback that she received afterwards was just what she needed to push herself further. She pushed herself and her Pokemon as hard as they could, when one day Palmer offered her an invitiation to join the ranks of boss Trainers in the Battle Tower. Overjoyed, she excepted. Marley got on well with her peers, who she found respected her despite her reserved, quiet demeanour. Their names were Riley, Buck, Mira and Cheryl, and she loved them like family. Every day brought new challenges for her; new Trainers to battle. The five of them made a formidable wall as they ended the winning streaks of many a challenger, either individually or working together in a double or triple battle. Occasionally, she and her friends visited the Battleground in the Survival Area to battle and meet up with some of the region's gym leaders, including Riley's father and brother Bryon and Roark. Life was simple, plentiful and, most importantly, it was good. It didn't last though. The epidemic hit Sinnoh with a mighty force, bringing the reigon to its knees almost overnight. The Battle Tower was evacuated under Palmer's instructions, with Marley and her friends helping to get everyone out safely. They made it back to the mainland, where the situation was worse than they feared. Undead Pokemon lurked around every corner, hungering for their flesh. Palmer tried to direct his group through the reigon, looking for a safe place, but they were all separated in an ambush. Marley watched as people and Pokemon alike were eaten alive by those monsters, before forcing herself to run as Palmer had instructed. That was the last time she ever saw her friends, or any other human for that matter. Now, Marley spends her days simply trying to stay alive, always searching for food, supplies and weapons. Her Pokemon are all she has left, and she intends to keep it that way. |

| Personality | Marley is ... a strange girl. Right from the onset, she has had trouble making friends. The girl is very reserved and so quiet that sometimes she rarely speaks unless she is spoken to first. She is moody and temperamental, never having time for immaturity or nonsense. She distrusts strangers, and will quite gladly avoid their company altogether, very much preferring a Pokemon at her side to a person. She is a girl of very few words, and would rather just get straight to the point; she has no desire for chit-chat. Marley is a sensitive girl, and is able to easily read people and pick up on their emotions through body language, tone of voice and overall demeanor. Negative vibes seem to find their way to her easily, a tense atmosphere putting her on edge and making her uncomfortable. Rather than trying to boost morale though, Marley is likely to simply distance herself from the trouble until it passes. She initially cares very little for people, unless they can somehow gain her trust, which is a difficult task. Marley is, and always has been, a daydreamer. She can lose herself for hours in her fantasies and dreams, wishing that she could just teleport herself into her own little world, where the dead stay dead and the people she once knew are at her side again. She misses her family and her friends from the Battle Tower, and would give anything to know if they're all right. She will only cry for them at night, when she can do so without anyone seeing her. The epidemic has had its toll on Marley; the young woman initially found it difficult to have to resort to violence to protect herself and her Pokemon. The blood that covered her hands gave her nightmares for weeks. But over time she has accustomed to this, and nowadays killing in self defense is as normal as eating or sleeping to her. She is ruthless to anyone she considers a threat, using either her own weapons or commanding her Pokemon to do the deed. Don't give Marley any reason to think that you may be a threat, for she will likely kill you without a second thought. Quite often, she engages in violence with a smile on her face. Nurture her good side, though, and Marley is a kind-hearted girl. She cares deeply for her friends and would do anything for them. Gaining Marley's full trust is a hard thing to do, especially now, but once it's earned you have yourself a true friend and powerful ally. Marley is an experienced Trainer, and knows each of her Pokemon and their battle strategies inside and out. She enjoys friendly competition, but does not expect to lose (sulking for a few hours after a defeat was quite ordinary back in the day). |
