A call to Artists Empty A call to Artists

Post by Suicune Thu Mar 08, 2012 12:33 pm

This thread will now be permanent.
I'll be posting here whenever we need any art for the site that is open to all of our artists.

    _____________________________

Our profiles page allows the use of icons to be placed within to represent each category.

I would like to use images (max) as large as this:
    A call to Artists Pokeball
    Which is 32x23px.

I would also like one non-animated/static, and the other animated, like the example, where it bounces in place.

This can be a collaborative effort between artists here; as I know not all are spriters, and not all are animators.

We will need sprites for all the major categories in the profile pages, especially for the tickets, since there's getting to be alot.

concerning design: be creative, but simple.
These are sprites, so they're going to be small. It needs to be easily readable upon seeing it.
Each ticket sprite needs to be significantly different from the other, so we have a visual difference between each ticket. This can be a color change or what have you; just make them different.

Submit your entries here. All we need is one example from each person/group. (just one icon, one static, one animated)
The winning artist/group will be chosen to provide the rest of the sprites.

    Prizes for the winners:

    - 50FP per artist
    - Sprite feature that will be seen sitewide

This is primarily directed at our assistant artists, but anyone can submit an entry. The deadline is within a month, so get your entries in ASAP.

    Good luck everyone!

@ Drago- they're for the profile pages. They'll be appearing before the text of each category.

After much deliberation, the winner is TailsFoxStar!
The sprites were very clear and well designed, all unmistakable for what they represent.
    Great job, Tails.
You'll be awarded 50FP and your sprites will be used.
Would you be willing to do more if we need them?

    New task for our artists!

We are going to need an affiliate stamp.
Average size of stamps are usually 100x50px, like this one.
    A call to Artists Epidemicjohto

-This stamp will need to be representative of EJ.
-One should be made of each admin, so they can be cycled out.
-It must have either our name or our initials on it.

If you wish to use our main font, it can be found here:
    http://www.dafont.com/ghastly-panic.font

However, it may not show up due to how small it will be, so you are free to use another.

The art is fantastic, but the logo and text can't be read.
    Perhaps make it larger?

Your stamps have been featured here:
    https://www.epidemicjohto.com/t2023-affiliation-sister-sites#26443

If you could send me the raw files for these, if possible. (layered file, unaltered pokemon images, etc)
I like to back up site art just in case.
Sendspace.com is a good way of doing this. Just link me to those files in a PM.

A call to Artists Empty Re: A call to Artists

Post by Suicune Sat Mar 24, 2012 1:59 pm

I just wanted to note for all artists a small issue with their images.

I've found that alot of images that have transparency on them have a .jpg extension.
This causes issues when you download or when you want to upload, making the transparency break sometimes because the browser doesn't recognize it.

I figured alot of people didn't know the differences, so I'm posting them here now, to help clarify.

.JPG/.JPEG= flat files that do not have transparency.
.GIF=can have transparency, can be animated, usually low quality because it's uploaded to the web.
    .PNG= high quality transparency.
.PSD=Photoshop file, usually much larger than any of the above because of multiple layers and other information saved in it.

So to conclude, if you have a file that has transparency, use either gif or png. If it doesnt, use jpg.

To do this, you go to file> save as> and under the title box, theres a file type dropdown, where you can find the file extension.
This is consistent with any painting/image editing program, so everyone should be able to do this.

    Hope this helps

This is a call to someone who is willing to be a permanent 'badge designer.'

While the old ones are very nice, I would like a new design; sprited badges, to match our profile page images.
Anathemas' old badge designs can be used as reference or you can make brand new ones. (permission has been given by ana to do this)

They'll need to be the same size as our current ones. They can even be animated if that's what you want to do. (if you do that, I prefer if they just have a reflection shimmer on them)

Once someone accepts, I can send all of the badges to them in a zip file.
If those are all done satisfactory, we have some more badges that need to be designed, which you will be briefed on.

    Requirements for applying are:

-at least one sprited work as an example

    Thanks

Okay, that's acceptable. If you could redo a badge of your choice of the existing ones, and we'll see how that comes out.
    We'll go from there.

    Thanks Lute!

    Very nice!
    I like the reflection animation.
If you could follow up with the rest, with animated and static, like this.
Here's the zip folder with all the badges.
    http://www.sendspace.com/file/rjga97

You can of course change the design or make brand new designs if you wish, they will be updated in the pages.
After these are done, you may be asked to make some new ones.
For instance, we'll need a fakemon badge.

    Thanks Lute

    All right guys, another proposition!

We are in need of maps. Yes, maps of the areas the teams have come across, and changed. Since most teams are running around away from their original locations -which is fine- we would like some consistency between them, so details remain the same... because we're OCD like that.

These maps can be hand-drawn or edited from the original game's overview maps, like this: A call to Artists 300px-Pallet_Town_HGSS

All of the maps can be found in bulbapedia.

Now, this will take a PAINSTAKINGLY long time to finish, as a lot of the teams have altered their locations. Therefore, please direct any details of the towns you've been in so mapmakers can follow.

    Map Details

Please use the most updated version available. Do not reference from the Anime, please.

    Thank you!
