A product of accidental breeding, by a trainer leaving his Pokemon in a daycare for too long, she was abandoned as an egg. The daycare owner was a gentle old man who had a number of these abandoned eggs, and rather than let them be orphaned he decided to sell them to trainers he saw having trouble catching their own Pokemon. One day he happened upon a young man named Dean, who was running his own breeding ranch in Orre, and told him the story about an overwhelming surplus of abandoned eggs the daycare had recently come into due to forgetful trainers. Dean was heartbroken to hear of all the eggs left by trainers without the patience for hatching so he kindly bought several of these discarded treasures and took them home. His Vulcarona, Cira, was his closest companion and also his form of an incubator, using her Flame Body to heat the eggs that were laid at the ranch. It took several weeks, but eventually all of the newly acquired eggs hatched, including one special kit.
Dean was enthralled by the hyper little Vulpix, mostly because she was very bright had a very odd coloring, fur burning a near neon orange rather than the burnt coloring of her kind. With no idea how that could have happened Dean decided to adopt her as one of his personal Pokemon, training her every day so that she could evolve and hopefully pass down the unique trait. She was given the name Phoenix, since she was quite honestly one of a kind. Phoenix was a handful, constantly getting into trouble and causing several problems on the ranch, but she learned quickly. And despite her rather aggressive nature she adored Dean and always managed to get on his soft side when in trouble, so she was usually forgiven. Like most of her species Phoenix was always incredibly intelligent, but had a mean streak to her that concerned Dean at times. Anytime one of the ranch Pokemon did something she thought offensive to her, or harmed her, she would get back at them double. By the time she learned Captivate, it was a skill she had already mastered, conning others into giving in to her whims. The move simply gave her an even sharper edge in battle, lowering her opponent's ability to hurt her in a fight. Fairly self-centered, and more than a little vain, it took a long time for Dean to be able to trust her enough to evolve her.
When Dean did finally presented her with a Fire Stone, it was the happiest day of Phoenix's life. She had worked hard for this moment, and for her it meant that Dean trusted her enough to finally become part of the ranch. For a long time she thought she would be a Vulpix forever because of her attitude, and once she realized that her constant fighting was the reason she was still a Vulpix, she had set to work controlling her anger. Thanks to her hard work Dean was finally giving her a chance. Touching her nose to the warm, glowing stone Phoenix could feel its inner power flow through her, enveloping her in a brilliant white light that shaped and reformed her miniature form into one of a sleek elegance. But that was not all. Her evolution shocked everyone, even herself, for now her odd pelt color had once again shown itself to have no equal. Dean had guessed that her coloring would be a little...off, from a normal Ninetales just based on her coloration as a Vulpix but no one expected that there before them would be a bright blond Ninetales whose fur gleamed like gold with bright red tips on her tails. She was practically yellow! Dean was thrilled with the new development and set off immediately to find a proper stud for her, because none but the best would do for his rare beauty.
It took months. Phoenix would not settle for just any mate, and insisted on fighting every stud who came to offer their service. She defeated all of them, refusing them as mates once she did, and soon no other breeder would come to the Caldar Ranch for fear of their studs being maimed. Dean soon had to start looking into other options, and his hunt led him to an older Pokemon Champion with Pokemon for sale. As soon as Dean saw Erebos he knew he was perfect for his shining beauty, and quite likely powerful enough to take her head on in a match. Happily purchasing the powerful Houndoom, Dean made the gentleman a promise that any time he wanted to come to the ranch to see Erebos or his offspring he was welcome, and if he ever wanted any of the pups Dean would save the first pick for him. But, as usual, Phoenix made everything more difficult.
When Dean brought Erebos home Phoenix had already had a bad day, having spent most of it bickering with two other Pokemon who had taken a dislike to her rise in their ranch. Since her evolution she had shaped up quickly, and sharply, to being the leader of Dean's Pokemon. She had taken Kegan, Cira's only son, as her second and the two made an impressive team leading the ranch. To most. A snarky pair of older breeders didn't like Phoenix's aggressive style and challenged her, leaving her in an irritated state after their defeat. Seeing Dean bring home yet another male for her was just more crap she didn't want to deal with. Erebos was definitely older than her, at least twice her age, but he was far from old. He was in his prime, his demeanor proud, powerful, with a gentlemanly air, but sadly it was those very qualities that set off the already irritable female. Laughing in his face at his polite introduction was her first reaction, followed soon by a scoff and a flick of her tails as she sauntered off. Leaving Dean annoyed and Erebos pissed.
She never would have imagined the Houndoom would have the balls to break into her room and wallow all over her bed, but he did. Not only did he, but when Phoenix caught him he gloated about it, which is when something inside of her snapped. Phoenix wasted no time attacking the older male, leaving him stunned for a moment before he began to fight back. She didn't make it easy on him, getting more than a few good hits in before his larger form took the upper hand and pinned her. She was a flash of claws and teeth, going for his face in hopes of blinding the male and making him get up, but he was finished with her tantrum. She felt his teeth clamp firmly around her neck, a rigid pressure that with just a hair more effort would easily pierce her skin and bleed her dry. She struggled, a bit, against the hold but soon was forced to submit as his weigh grew heavy on her leaving little room to breathe. When he let go she scrambled back to her feet and moved away from him, eyeing him warily from across the room, but he didn't move on her. He stayed right where he was, watching her as she watched him. A silent understanding passed between the two and they relaxed, Erebos offering a courteous farewell before departing her room.
Phoenix became fascinated by the first male to ever challenge her, insisting on following him around and training with him in hopes of defeating him again one day. She didn't understand her obsession with the older male until nearly a year later, when confessed that over his stay he had fallen in love with the brash female. That sealed it. After his confession Phoenix had taken Erebos as her mate and could not have been happier, the depth of her love for the Houndoom a shock to many. They even bore their first egg after a time, and the strange markings on the outer shell left Phoenix and Dean with a hope that the child inside would be special like her, and he was. On his hatching a tiny silver Vulpix tumbled out of the egg and lay shivering at his mother's feet, Phoenix's heart swelling near to bursting at the sight of him. Motherhood had an astounding effect on the Ninetales, many of her sharper edges smoothing out and making her much more personable. Her little Nikkolai was the light of her life, and Erebos was a fierce protector of them both.
Sadly, not long after Nikki was hatched, Caldar Ranch was attacked by Cipher. They attacked in the dead of night and stole many of Dean's Pokemon, only a precious few managing to escape including Phoenix and Erebos. Dean had caught them in the act and tried to defend his beloved Pokemon, but one of the grunts shot him and the female assumed him dead, as Cipher began setting fire to the barn they left him in. The blaze soon spread to the rest of the ranch, leaving nothing but smoking ruin. Alongside their escape was an Arcanine named Nuri and the group tailed Cipher as far as they could, hellbent on catching them for they had taken Nikkolai and Phoenix would stop at nothing to get her son back. She and her fellow fire types followed the gang to Pyrite, where they lost track of the Cipher thugs and the others from the ranch. Desperate and forlorn they settled in that town, Cipher using it as a regular pass through to the rest of Orre leaving the group with their only chance at tracking what happened to her child and the others. Phoenix's natural gift of persuasion and her ruthless cunning set her at the top of what quickly became a gang of homeless Pokemon, Erebos as her new second until the found Kegan. They would steal from the humans everything they needed, setting up a makeshift den in an abandoned basement that served as their new home. Sometimes, if she was feeling generous, Phoenix would help out some of the worse of humans that lived their, so no one minded them much as long as they didn't cause too much trouble. But losing Nikki had left her bitter, angry, and more often than not left the humans to their own devices.
However, when the epidemic hit, Phoenix and her gang were forced to fight for their lives. Orre never had very many Pokemon, but the ones people owned and the few that lived in the wild went crazy and started slaughtering everyone. Eventually, the infection spread to her own gang, and Nuri was the first to go. The once beautiful Arcanine set loose on her former friends and, after tearing through their gang like tissue, Nuri came for the pair. The battle was brutal and after they became trapped Erebos was killed right in front of her, her mate struggling to defend her from their former friend. In her outrage Phoenix was forced to kill her only other companion from Caldar Ranch, leaving the oddly colored female alone. While she managed to stave off the attack in her den, Phoenix was not satisfied. Refusing to leave her home she fiercely guarded it, and was quick to slaughter any who try to take her or her den. Living or no.
*** But, as all things, it too came to an end. Phoenix had found a friend, a strangely colored Absol named Asche, and the unique pair worked well together. She liked the Absol and his quirky luck, but he was not the only one to join them. A young Vibrava, an old nemesis of a Persian named Raven, and several others had found their way to Phoenix, and she offered to shelter them in exchange for service. The young Vibrava, Kylie, she liked, as the child's gentle personality reminded Phoenix of her little Nikkolai. But the others, she never did well with strangers, but thankfully none of them stayed too long. A Smeargle had tried taking up ownership of Phoenix's town, forcing out a few and painting Pyrite with a hideous shade of green. He thought himself clever, trying to use riddles to make them 'earn' their survival, but after a few minutes Phoenix had enough of him. She probably didn't need to be so brutal when she murdered the maniac, but in her defense he was annoying. And no one complained really.
When Dean found her and her new little group Phoenix was ecstatic, rushing the human and desperate for his affection. She had felt so alone since losing him, and her mate, and her child...but with Dean her hope was renewed that maybe her son and the others were alive. Dean had already found Cira and Storm, which meant maybe Cipher hadn't lost his whole ranch to the Epidemic. The group took shelter in Phoenix's den for a short bit, but while she and Asche were out huntin a great beast of an Undead Mandibuzz, like nothing she had ever seen before, tore through her home. Fear settled into her stomach as a dark secret she had tried to keep hidden rose from the rubble. Erebos, her murdered mate, had become one of the living dead and escaped the prison she had tucked him away in.
Her mistake caused the group a lot of harm, losing more than just their home this time. Once he was safely trapped again Phoenix and Dean argued over what was to be done about her Undead love. She couldn't bear to lose him again. To try and stop the arguing Asche suggested the group try and find new shelter and more food, to which Phoenix agreed, only to come across a cat that was dropped out of the sky. His arrival set off a chain reaction that ended with the coliseum completely collapsing and the entire group getting separated, Asche and the strange cat tumbling down into the darkness with the old arena. Now she and Dean search for her missing friend, the female not willing to lose another friend. And with no proof of his death she refused to accept that he hadn't survived the fall, so she wouldn't stop looking until she found him. |
