I have a feeling this subject was previously addressed, so I apologise if I'm just repeating the question. :B
I have a character in the works whose history is majorly influenced by substance abuse (narcotics and alcohol). I haven't mentioned any specific substances, although the side effects of long-term abuse are extremely relevant to his character, both in personality and appearance. Overall, the substance abuse is portrayed as a negative factor in the character's life and he ultimately wants to change his ways.
I was just wondering whether this is acceptable. I understand it's a sensitive topic, but if suicidal and mentally-ill characters are permitted, surely substance abuse isn't too different? However, I completely understand that the final decision rests with the staff.
I'm happy to PM or post the history I've written so far for him, but I don't want to waste a load of time on a character that has no chance of approval. ^^;
Thanks in advance ~
