Zoke the Genius Squirtle [Sinnoh, Celestic City]

-Crack, Crack, Smash these were the first sounds that Zoke heard, as he hatched from his egg. The first thing he saw, shelf after shelf of book. Zoke was hatched in a small, hard to find area of a library, and quickly ran in fear. Finding a small hole in a wall, Zoke wriggled in, and broke beam after beam, making a large tunnel which ran throughout the entire building. Soon, Zoke learned that nobody ever ventured into the abandoned, creaky, dangerous and rundown part of the library.

Returning to his shattered egg, Zoke saw a slip of paper underneath it, and a small item of fabric. The note read:"To our darling baby, Zoke, we will always love you, but we can not be with you. Please remember us forever with this symbol of our love." Zoke picked up the small piece of fabric underneath, which unfolded as Zoke lifted it. A single golden star was stitched on to the item. Zoke picked it up and tied it around his arm, in the shape it was when he had found it.

Zoke wasn't sure how he knew to tie, he just, knew. Zoke lived in the walls, sneaking out of the building on occasion to find water flowers, and brought them back. Over the years in the building, Zoke had learned to speak in the way that humans did, and with that, he saw the words they read out loud, and figured out, through his own intelligence, how to read and write. Knowing how to read and write, Zoke began reading many of the books in the abandoned section of the library, After reading almost all of these books, he even began sneaking into the larger section of the library, grabbing books, and taking them to the abandoned section of the library.

Eventually, he began tearing empty pages from books, and finding an old book cover. Eventually, he had collected hundreds of pages, and put them all in the cover. He put the note from his parents in the first page, and began creating a journal. He recorded his life, then when the epidemic hit, he could roam more freely within the library.

He began reading new books of all types. He learned more and more. He had even learned attacks from the books, ones about Pokémon and how to strengthen them. He never really fought much, only trained, so as his level grew, his strength did not grow much.

After much time, he decided to venture outside on a journey, to see why no humans returned after so long. The first day Zoke journeyed from the library, he met an infected. In a large battle, Zoke had used his Water Gun, but dealt little damage against the infected Bulbasaur. A single Razor Leaf easily slashed his stomach, as tough as it was. Had Zoke used a Protect, he would not have been injured.

Returning back to the library, he let his wound heal, but it never really healed properly, it always was there, but did not bleed. Zoke remembered from a book he had read, this was called a 'scar'. After weeks of hiding in fear, Zoke decided to venture out again. He had not ever read about the strange form of Bulbasaur, and so was wary of other Pokémon around the region.

He traveled all around, hearing Pokémon tell him of the past, from which he was secluded in the library enough to not know of. Eventually, he decided to return home, not wanting to get killed.

Upon making it back to the library, all that was there was a large pile of broken wood. The building had fallen down. Book pages were scattered. He would have to find a new home, he decided, and so, off he set. Into the big bad world. He had to brave it.
